Today November 3rd, is a national holiday here in Japan, Bunka No Hi or Culture Day, and if there was one thing I hadn’t planned this morning, it was to find a quite big classic car show on the parking lot where I rent a spot for my car...
As I was about to go get some groceries, I saw a couple of nice cars during the 200 meters that separate my home from the place where I park my car. The parking lot is owned by the local temple and once I got closer, I quickly noticed something was... unusual. CLASSIC CAR SHOW RIGHT NEXT TO HOME!!!
So I did what any car guy would have done: I immediatly forgot what I was supposed to do, ran back home to grab my camera and went to look at all the stuff that the my ô so awesome local temple had organized!
This time, I also did a little GoPro walk-around video (“little” but still 28 minutes long...) that I’ll post at the end of the article. I talk while filming and I usually suck at this. So if my voice and commentaries are annoying, if I repeat the word “like” way too often and for no reason, if the gopro without a steadycam is unwatchable to you...etc etc, please let me know and I won’t do it again, promise!
Anyway, photodump in 3....2...1...
Mitsubishi Lancer GSR
A couple of Toyota Crowns of different generations
Toyota Publica (s)
Toyota Sports 800

A few Isuzu 117
Isuzu Bellett 1800GT Type R
GNAAAAAAAHHHHHAAEERRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR
Some old Riley Sport car (1931)
Messerschmidt KR something...
What I think to be a Morgan with Moto-Guzzi engine... I thought Morgan made their own engines though, but maybe not...
I had to order one of those Moto-Lita steering wheel for a friend, damn are they expensive! (600$ average if I recall correctly)

Full blown rally car with a license plate... The guy had all its rally gear inside the car too. Considering the shape of the front spoiler, it’s fair to say, this one can jump.
A Jaaaaaaaag
Another Crown, weird generation this time...
Kiiiill....me..... killll...meeeeeee
I hope you enjoyed the n-th car show coverage I’ve done, as promised, here is a little gopro tour of the whole thing where you can hear me talking, thinking the Giulia shared its plateform with the 124, mistaking a Toyota Starlet for a Mazda 323 (in my defense, this gen, they really did look alike lol) or say that the 911 SC was launched in 1978 instead of 1976!
Enjoy!

This is a Wolseley Hornet, I believe. It and the Riley Elf are a dressed up Mini with added trunk and decorative fascia. Stef has one for LeMons.

Fantastic dude. I actually really want to visit Okazaki as its the birthplace of the 4G63 and all the fun Mitsubishi efforts. The logo somewhat resembles the cool Capital flag .
I believe the castle there was also the seat of one of the great badasses/ unifiers of Japan, Toyotomi Hideoshi and birthplace of Tokugawa Iyesu.
...no need for wedgies I’ll show myself out

The realist: “I might be able to own one of these days if I have no kids or after the age of 50 if I have kids”

Suzuki Fronte Coupe, designed by Giugiaro. Really nice little car. Extremely tiny though and its value is going up as we speak... I’ll try to own one asap but it’s kind of far down my list and it might just be too expensive when (if) I get to it...

I occasionally mix up the Elf and the Hornet - the big difference was inside, where the Hornet had a brushed metal dash panel and vinyl, and the Elf had wood veneer (!) and leather. The grills I think are mostly the same apart from the logo (hard to make out here), though both grills varied over time, at least at the lower vents. The external hinges are also a point for Hornet unless it got rebodied - I think almost all Elfs were made with concealed door hinges.

BMC had a screwy idea that the only things keeping the upper middle class ladies out of the Mini were trunk (“boot”) size, interior fanciness, and unrefined styling. So... that happened. Alec Issigonis hated it.
On re-review of the grills, it’s a Riley. Same grill etc. apart from the *position* of the logo. Curses.

IIRC Morgan never made their own engines, although I believe the new 3-wheeler uses an engine specifically designed for it. . The older 3-wheelers used motorcycle V-twins, mostly by JAP, but there were others. The Moto Guzzi seems like a really neat swap, though, considering England was still top of the world in motorcycles while the original 3-wheeler was being built.

Great posts. The Sports 800 and Bellett 1800GT Type R are my favorites. And, don’t hate on the custom Miata. It looks a little like a surprised frog-rabbit with the 240Z style front, but it is not to bad.

Not really; They were just another variant, built like that from the factory. Marcos’s etc. were kit-build type arrangements, which needed a donor car to pull the subframes from. Think of it more like a vanden plas of a mini; Bit of a trim level.
